The Montevallo Branch of AAUW presents “Springtime Celebration”
A Style Show, Luncheon, and Silent Auction
Thursday, March 28, 2013, John Stewart Student Retreat
Silent Auction begins at 11:30; Luncheon begins at 12 noon
Proceeds benefit Reading Is Fundamental in Montevallo,
Adult Literacy, and AAUW’s Educational Funds
Plans are underway for the annual AAUW Style Show, Luncheon, and Silent Auction, a fund-raising project sponsored by the Montevallo Branch of AAUW to benefit AAUW’s Educational Programs, Adult Literacy, and Reading Is Fundamental. We are very excited that some of our proceeds will again support the new Hallie Farmer Legacy Scholarship for juniors and seniors as well as a book scholarship for a freshman woman at the University of Montevallo.
We are very grateful for the community’s support over the years. We need to enlist your support once more to help us further AAUW’s goals of educational opportunity for all. Your commitment is needed more than ever to provide educational opportunities for women and their families and literacy opportunities for children and adults.
Styles will be provided by Belk and lunches by Southern Sweets. The Silent Auction will offer arts, crafts, and other specialty items for the Easter season. The ticket price of $15.00 includes the luncheon, style show, silent auction, and a donation to further children’s and adult literacy and other educational opportunities for women. As always, your ticket and silent auction donations and purchases will be essential to the success of our fundraiser. Please let us know as well if you can volunteer to help with publicity, auction set up, or clean up.
Below are more details about tickets and auction items:
Ticket Sales:
We are mailing out tickets which we hope you can buy or sell. If you need more tickets, please let us know. If at all possible, please turn in your ticket reservations and money by Monday, March 25 (sooner if possible!). Checks should be made payable to the Montevallo Branch of AAUW. You may give your reservations and ticket money to Suzanne Hurst (Blue Phrog Gallery, 955 Main Street, Montevallo, 665 3766; bluephroggallery@att.net), or to Sandra Lott (665 2127; jlott285@charter.net) It is very important that we have an accurate number for our caterer, so if you should decide to donate money instead of buying tickets, please let us know that, too, so lunches will not be ordered and not used. For further information about tickets and reservations, you may contact Mary Jo Buff (buffmj@montevallo.edu; 665 6289); or Sandra Lott.
ilent Auction Donations and Purchases:
To ensure the success of our event, we need quality arts and crafts items for the auction. We hope you will help by contacting a local artist for a donation or by donating a special personal arts or crafts item to the auction. We welcome needlework, woodcrafts, stained glass, painting, handmade baskets, gourd art, ceramics, antique, vintage, or holiday items, gardening, specialty foods, photography, note cards, or other arts and craft items. We plan to have Easter baskets and other seasonal decorations available as well. If at all possible, deliver items for the auction to Suzanne Hurst at Blue Phrog Gallery or to Tonja Battle at Hill House on the UM campus. Remember the University will be closed the week of UM’s spring break, but Blue Phrog should be open that week. If it is more convenient, one of us will be also be glad to pick up or receive your items. For more information about the auction, please contact Sandra Lott (665-2127; jlott285@charter.net) or Mary Jo Buff (665 6289; buffmj@montevallo.edu).
Thanks so much for your continued help and support!
